Kids Line Archer to See Pumpkin Parade

The Midway Chamber of Commerce's annual Pumpkin Jamboree Parade along Archer Avenue stepped off at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26.

Sunny and seasonably a bit cool. Temperature at about 48 degrees. Crisp, but not bad weather for an October parade in Chicago.

Hundreds of boys and girls in costume lined the parade route---along with moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles.

Thanks once again to the parade's sponsor, the Midway Chamber of Commerce. This is the fifth year in a row that the Chamber has organized the event. It clearly shows that independent business owners on the Southwest Side care about the community.

At the end of the parade, at Kennedy High School, the Chamber and others hosted a celebration that included free treats, entertainment and more. Grand marshal Kennedy Blades, an Olympic champion wrestler, graciously stuck around to meet and greet her fans, especially local girls and boys.

A tip of our cap, as well, to those police officers who, seeing candy that was thrown from parade units but which landed
too close to the parade to be picked up safely by kids at the curbs--picked up the candy themselves and handed it to boys and girls at the curbs.

Elected officials, as well as those campaigning to be elected, were also present. (This is Chicago, right?)

(Along with moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, and even a couple of dogs and mascots.)
