Crime News Update

  Editor's note: The crime news reported by the Southwest Chicago Post---taken directly from Chicago Police Department incident reports---is not by any means an exhaustive catalogue of all crime reported in the Chicago Lawn (8th) District. For example, it typically does not include news of crimes committed in the eastern sectors of the district---because the Southwest Chicago Post's coverage area is primarily the neighborhoods that border Midway Airport and secondarily because including the relatively large volume of crime news from elsewhere in the district would be a logistical challenge. We make this note to offer a little helpful perspective and remind everyone that while crime is definitely a concern in all parts of the district (as it always has been), crime remains relatively low overall in the western section of the district. May all of us work together diligently to keep it that way. May all of us also remember that a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Seize car of man charged with drag racing
Mendoza


A 48-year-old Humboldt Park man was charged with drag racing, drifting, reckless driving and screeching his Dodge Charger’s tires after he was arrested at 5300 S. Cicero at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Oscar Mendoza, of the 900 block of North Lawndale, was participating in an intersection takeover near where he was apprehended, a CPD spokesman said.

He also was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a pat-down yielded a white powdery substance in a pocket, the spokesman added. Police seized and impounded Mendoza’s car.


Charged with hitting woman
Jones

A 19-year-old woman from San Bernardino, Calif. Was charged with domestic battery after she was arrested in the 5600 block of West 63rd Street at 3:22 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.


Benita Elizabeth Jones allegedly punched a 24-year-old woman in the back of the head during an argument.







Charge man with reckless driving
Guaman


A 19-year-old Humboldt Park man was charged with reckless driving after he was arrested in the alley behind 5109 S. Central at 11:19 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. 

Jonathan J. Guaman, of the 1000 block of North Avers, allegedly drove a vehicle north from 55th and Central and ran at least one stoplight while he was followed by police, a CPD spokesman said.

A charge of driving a vehicle with a stolen or altered license plate was added after officers ran a plate check on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Guaman was driving, the spokesman added.
Bello


Also arrested was Franklin Park resident Andrew Bello, 20, who police said was with Guaman. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and illegal possession of a laser sight.

According to public records, Guaman was arrested by CPD on July 6 near 53rd and Maplewood and charged with reckless driving and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.




Say men refused to leave migrant shelter

Two men were charged with criminal trespass to state land after they were arrested at the Holiday Inn at 7353 S. Cicero at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.

Alfred Porter, 51, of the 1700 block of North Monitor, and Tyrone F. Muhammad, 53, of the 4100 block of South Ellis, allegedly tried to book rooms in the hotel and then refused to leave after they were told that no rooms were available because state government has taken over the facility as a shelter for hundreds of migrants.



Charge man with battery, threat


Shaheed-Owens

A 22-year-old Clearing man was charged with battery and aggravated assault after he was arrested at his home in the 5800 block of West 64th Street at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7.


Naqi T. Shaheed-Owens allegedly punched and kicked one man while threatening a second man with a gun.


The victims were age 24 and 44. A CPD spokesman did not say which man was punched and kicked.


Charged with trespassing at restaurant
Lopez


A 26-year-old Chicago Lawn man was charged with criminal trespass to land after he was arrested at Juanita’s Mexican Food, 6539 W. 63rd St., at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.

Alejandro Lopez, of the 2900 block of West 59th Street, was apprehended after he “caused a disturbance” and refused to leave the scene, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

According to public records, Lopez has been arrested four times by CPD since 2018 on such charges as criminal damage to government property, driving without a license and failure to appear in court.




Charge man with phone harassment
Ostrowski


A 51-year-old Central Stickney man was charged with criminal damage to property, as well as telephone harassment, after he was arrested in the 5800 block of South Archer at 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

Adam Ostrowski, of the 5200 block of West 51st Street, allegedly harassed a 49-year-old woman via telephone and scratched her vehicle, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.



Say man pushed woman
Izguerra



A 42-year-old Clearing man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested at his home in the 6100 block of South Menard at 12:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4.

Antonio A. Izguerra allegedly grabbed the wrist of a 42-year-old woman and pushed her during an argument, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.




Task Force busts man in Clearing
Davis


A 26-year-old Clearing man was arrested by members of the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force, at his home in the 6000 block of South Menard at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Tiontre Marcell Davis was apprehended without incident. A CPD spokesman would only say that Davis was arrested on a warrant charge. It may have been related to Davis’ arrest on July 30 near 81st and Loomis, when he was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by police investigating a crash he was involved in.

In February 2022, David was charged with unlawful use of a weapon when he was arrested near 67th and Wabash.


Say man violated court order
Noriega


A 48-year-old Archer Heights man was charged with violating an order of protection after he was arrested in the 5100 block of South Kolin at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Edwin L. Noriega, of the 5100 block of South Kostner, allegedly was in the presence of a 69-year-old woman, in violation of a court order. A CPD spokesman declined to elaborate.

According to public records, Noriega has been arrested seven times by CPD since 2016 on such charges as disorderly conduct, criminal trespass to state land, theft and battery.




Charged with domestic battery
Rivera

A 33-year-old Clearing man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested at his home in the 5600 block of West 64th Street at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. 

Jonathon J. Rivera allegedly elbowed a 30-year-old man in the eye during an argument, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

According to public records, Rivera, was arrested by CPD almost exactly 10 years earlier, at 2548 S. Princeton, and charged with domestic battery.


Say man violated court order
Eraso



A 20-year-old Hearst area man was charged with violating an order of protection after he was arrested near his home in the 4400 block of South Leclaire at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.


Nazario Eraso allegedly made a verbal threat against a 38-year-old woman, in violation of a court order.




Claim woman drove stolen vehicle
Wesley



A 20-year-old Englewood woman was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle after she was arrested during a traffic stop in front of 3502 W. 59th St. at 10:34 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30.


Angelique M. Wesley, of the 7000 block of South Throop, was found to be driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen in suburban Calumet Park.


Allegedly shoved man
Ayala



A 37-year-old Clearing woman was charged with domestic battery after she was arrested at her home in the 6700 block of West 64th Place at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Itzel Y. Ayala allegedly shoved a 40-year-old man in his side during an argument, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.






Say man obstructed police
Villegas



A 38-year-old West Lawn man was charged with obstructing a police investigation after he was arrested outside Siete Gotas Cantina, 5730 S. Archer, at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Aldo L. Villegas, of the 3900 block of West 67th Place, allegedly hindered police investigating a call about a large group of people fighting at that location, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.



Traffic stop leads to arrest
Gaviria-Jajoy



A 39-year-old Joliet man was charged with driving a vehicle with another vehicle’s license plate after he was arrested during a traffic stop in front of 6010 S. Pulaski at 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Edinson A. Gaviria-Jajoy also was charged with driving without a license.
