If you remember last year’s visit by an Elvis impersonator at Our Lady of the Snows Church, you may recall that the second performer on the bill, a Motown tribute act, just about stole the show with crowd-pleasing favorites.
As a lifelong Southwest Sider, I never thought I’d see a group of my generally conservative neighbors slow-dancing to a cover version of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles’ 1965 hit Ooo Baby Baby—or singing along loudly to Wilson Pickett’s Mustang Sally or Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together. But it happened, and I have the video to prove it, I note with a smile.
Well, that act—Fred & Friendz—is making a triumphant return to OLS on Saturday, October 14 in a show exclusively for local senior citizens, as well as military veterans and first responders.
OLS is located at 4810 S. Leamington. There is plenty of off-street parking adjacent to the door on the west side of the building. The facility is accessible to wheelchair users.
Doors open at 11:15 a.m. A modest lunch of pizza and beverages will be served promptly at 11:30. The show runs ‘til 2 p.m.
No admission charge, but you must register in advance by calling (312) 745-4255. The church hall seats 250, and I can assure you every seat will be taken, just like last year. So call today.
Just like last year, this show is generously provided as a community service by local business leaders: Geno Randazzo of All Exterior Contractors, Mike Riordan of the Mike Riordan State Farm Agency, Al Cacciottolo of First Rate Realty and Jose Yanez of Amigo Pest Control.
"We're pleased to present this top Motown tribute show to seniors, veterans and first responders," Randazzo said. "All we ask is that people register in advance, show up on time and prepare to be pampered with a free lunch and an extremely entertaining live musical performance."
