A 32-year-old West Lawn man has been charged with murder in connection with last week's slaying of a 21-year-old Gage Park woman.
Arnaldo Coronel, of the 4500 block of West 64th Street, was arrested on Thursday, June 16 in the 3400 block of West 66th Place. He allegedly shot Alexis Pedraza in the head and body at 7:39 p.m. Sunday, June 12 on the street at 6458 S. Kilbourn (across the street from the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church parking lot). She was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

A source in the neighborhood told the Southwest Chicago Post that Pedraza was pushed from a vehicle, and a man and a woman then approached on foot and proceeded to pummel Pedraza with their hands and feet. The man returned with a gun and shot Pedraza multiple times. Police recovered bullet casings at the scene.
According to a published news report, prosecutors claimed Coronel and a group of other people drove around in a Lexus for several hours before the shooting, with Pedraza as one of the passengers. They also claimed Coronel hid the murder weapon at his home.
Bond was denied, and Coronel is in custody of the Cook County Department of Corrections. His next scheduled court date is Tuesday, June 21.
According to public records, Coronel was arrested by CPD in April 2019 during a traffic stop near 64th and Whipple and charged with being a fugitive from justice/out of state warrant. Prosecutors reportedly said Coronel is a felon convicted of crimes in Illinois and Indiana.
